NGO Network

SOS Children's Villages is a member of several networks. The most important are:

Network of Vulnerable Child Protection Organizations - www.

The Network of Vulnerable Child Protection Organizations (ReSPESD) which was created in 2004, is the umbrella body of 57 organizations that work for the protection of children, in accordance with the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child and the African Charter on the Rights and Welfare of the Child. As First national network of child protection, the ReSPESD has worked hard to better support children in difficult situations both in our cities and in the most remote areas. The National Director of SOS Children's Villages is currently its Chairman of the Board of Directors.

The UPR Coalition

The UPR (Universal Periodic Review) or EPU (Evaluation Périodique Universelle) Coalition is a framework for dialogue and cooperation between non-governmental organizations or networks of national NGOs involved in the field of child protection in Benin. Among the networks members of this coalition, we can cite ReSPESD and CLOSE. Regarding NGOs, these include SOS Children's Villages Benin, Plan Benin, the Foundation Terre des Hommes and Right To Play. Founded in 2012, the coalition aims to assist the Government of Benin to honour its commitments to accountability through monitoring of the implementation of recommendations from Geneva Committees of child protection Experts regarding the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, and those of the African Union regarding the African Charter on the Rights and Welfare of the Child.

The mobilization of all social actors in the development and submission of alternative reports is a priority for the UPR Coalition which supports the Government of Benin, through practical expertise in the preparation of documents, policies and strategies for child protection in Benin. In May 2014, the Coalition sent to the Government, a reminder of its commitments to presenting initial and periodic reports to the Committees of Child Rights Experts of the African Union.

Our programmes in Abomey-Calavi, Dassa-Zoumé and Natitingou in Benin enable us to fulfil the rights of thousands of children. SOS Children’s Villages Benin is a member of Children's Villages International, operational in 133 countries and territories.
